Chinese New Year

We are learning about Chinese New Year. We talked about how it is celebrated.
Year 2017 is the year of the rooster. We had a go at creating a rooster painting using a fork instead of a brush.
Plum blossom paintings using our finger and a brush.
We made plum blossoms using some tissue paper and twigs.
Cooking and tasting noodles
Chinese lanterns
During the Chinese New Year week, we enjoyed listening to the Chinese song Gong Xi Gong Xi, we watched the story of Nian the Monster that tells us the origin of some Chinese custom of lighting fireworks and wearing red clothes. We also watched youtube clips of dragon dance and danced along to the lion dance. It was fun trying to imitate the sounds of the dragon dance using our musical instruments. We found out that Chinese writing is different so we had a go at tracing over the Chinese numbers writing.
