RE

Term 5

In RE this term we are asking...

How do the Five Pillars of Islam Help Muslims show commitment to God (Allah)?

We learned that Zakat, the third Pillar of Islam, is about giving to charity and that Muslims give away 2.5% of their wealth each year.

We thought about acts of charity we could perform and spent some time reading with children in the Reception class, helping them to enjoy stories and treat books with respect.

Term 5

In RE this term we are asking...

How do the Five Pillars of Islam Help Muslims show commitment to God (Allah)?

We visited the London Central Mosque.

We learned a little about the history of the mosque, as well as the faith of Islam.

We found out about prayer in the mosque and how the Five Pillars of Islam help Muslims to show commitment to their faith.

It was a very interesting and enjoyable trip.

Term 4

In RE this term we are asking...

How do the Symbols of Easter help us to understand its meaning for Christians?

In RE we have been learning about the story of Easter.

We acted out what happened at The Last Supper.

We thought about the words that Jesus said to his disciples and what they meant, as well as the symbols of the bread and wine and what they teach us about the meaning of Easter for Christians.

Term 3

In RE this term we have been asking...

Why are they having a party?

We learnt about the celebration of Sukkot.

We found out that at this festival, Jews remember when God kept their ancestors safe when they were in the desert by making sure they had enough food and water.

We learned that at this celebration, Jewish people build a sukkah, where they eat their meals for seven days and spend time with family and friends.

We worked in pairs to build and decorate sukkahs.

In RE this term we are asking...

How does the symbol of light help us to understand the meaning of Christmas for Christians?

We learned about the tradition of making Christingles and what each part of the Christingle represents.

We then each made a Christingle.

In RE this term we are asking...

Why did Jesus teach the Lord's Prayer as a way to pray?

At the end of our unit, Reverend Clare and Reverend Donna came to talk to us about what the Lord’s Prayer means to them.

We asked them questions such as:

Do you have a favourite line in the Lord’s prayer?

Why is it your favourite?

Is there a part in the Lord’s prayer that you find difficult to pray and live by?

What does the Lord’s prayer mean to you?

How does the Lord’s prayer help you in your daily life?

We practised saying the prayer together using the actions Donna taught us in collective worship.

In RE this term we are asking...

Why did Jesus teach the Lord's prayer as a way to pray?

We learned about the meaning of the line:

'Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us'.

In groups, we role-played a situation in which some friends needed to resolve a conflict and forgive each other.

In RE this term we are asking...

Why did Jesus teach the Lord's prayer as a way to pray?

We learned about the meaning of the line:

'Give us this day our daily bread'.

We worked in pairs to rank things we might need in life from the most to the least important.
