In RE this term we have been asking...
How do the symbols of Easter help us to understand its meaning for Christians?
We looked at different symbols of Easter, including the bread, wine and the cross.
We acted out what happened at the Last Supper.
We thought about the words that Jesus said to his disciples and what they meant, as well as the symbols of the bread and wine and what they teach about the meaning of Easter for Christians.
We decorated crosses to convey the meaning of Easter and reflected on the choices we had made in our design.
In RE this term we are asking...
Why are they having a party?
We are finding out about different Jewish celebrations, including Rosh Hashanah and Hanukkah.
We learned about the festival of Sukkot.
We found out that at this festival, Jews remember when God kept their ancestors safe when they were in the desert by making sure they had enough food and water.
We learned that at this celebration, Jewish people build a sukkah, where they eat their meals for seven days and spend time with family and friends.
We worked in pairs to build and decorate mini sukkahs.
We made sure to leave gaps in the roof and build three walls.
Term 2
In RE this term we are asking...
How does the symbol of light help us to understand the meaning of Christmas for Christians?
We learned about the Christingle and what each part of it symbolises. We then each made one.
This week we learned about how artists use light in their paintings to identify the important message of Christmas and express their own ideas. We made our own Nativity artworks that included light.
This week we talked about what the words light and dark mean to us and began to understand what Jesus meant when he said 'I am the light of the world'.
Term 1
In RE this term we are asking...
Why did Jesus teach the Lord's prayer as a way to pray?
At the end of our unit, Reverend Clare came to talk to us about what the Lord’s Prayer means to her.
We asked her questions such as:
Do you have a favourite line in the Lord’s prayer?
Why is it your favourite?
Is there a part in the Lord’s prayer that you find difficult to pray and live by?
What does the Lord’s prayer mean to you?
How does the Lord’s prayer help you in your daily life?
We practised saying the prayer together.
We learned about the meaning of the line:
'Give us this day our daily bread'.
We worked in pairs to rank things we might need in life from the most to the least important.
We are learning to understand what Jesus meant by the words 'Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.'
We drew pictures of what the world would look like if everyone was behaving in the way God wants.
