Science

Air resistance: We made parachutes using different sizes to investigate which one would create the most air resistance. We then dropped them from the roof and timed how long each one took to reach the ground.

Our Term 4 display!

Term 3: Year 5 were classifying and explaining the properties of different materials

Term 3

Term 2: To conclude their Science unit on 'forces', Year 5 researched how mechanisms can enhance an 'input force' to create a greater 'external force'. They collected information on different types of mechanisms and then designed their own mechanisms, including gears, pulleys and levers.

Term 2: Testing which material creates the most friction. Year 5 discussed which variables would need to change or be controlled.

Term 2: Year 5 learnt to test the effect air resistance can have on moving objects. They undertook an investigation as to which plastic bag would make the best parachute and why. In order to test it fully, we first tried in the classroom and then tested our hypothesis on a larger scale!

Term 2: Forces

Term 1: As part of their learning about the planets in our Solar System, Year 5 used their knowledge to create a 'human' model of the order of the planets, moon and space station in our solar system (including the asteroid belt!)

Term 1: Our Solar System!
