Nursery class were fascinated when the eggs were delivered and placed in an incubator. They thought about the shape of an egg and drew a picture of the eggs in the incubator. The children observed a chick hatching and learnt about the features of a chick, such as the beak, wings and feathers. Nursery class were very excited when they could finally hold a chick! The children made playdough chicks with feathers, and drew and painted pictures too. They helped to clean out the brooder box and fill up the food and water. The parents were invited in to hold a chick during ‘Stay and Play’ which was very popular! The children learnt the ‘Spring Chicken’ song with actions and listened to several stories about chickens over the 2 weeks, such as Dora’s Chicks and The Little Red Hen.
