Understanding the World
EYFS Statutory Educational Programme:
Understanding the world involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community. The frequency and range of children’s personal experiences increases their knowledge and sense of the world around them – from visiting parks, libraries and museums to meeting important members of society such as police officers, nurses and firefighters. In addition, listening to a broad selection of stories, non-fiction, rhymes and poems will foster their understanding of our culturally, socially, technologically and ecologically diverse world. As well as building important knowledge, this extends their familiarity with words that support understanding across domains. Enriching and widening children’s vocabulary will support later reading comprehension.
Term 4: Science Day - Exploring the Properties of Playdough
Term 4: During our history lesson, we explored old and new toys to understand changes over time. We were very excited to discover toys from the past, such as cup and ball, spinning tops, wooden dolls and skittles!
Term 3: Our topic this term is zoom zoom, and it's really cool to learn about space and astronauts. We learned about Mae Jemison, the first African American woman to travel in space. Her story teaches us that we can all reach for the stars and follow our dreams, no matter who we are!
Term 2: We're learning all about winter and how each season is different!
Term 1: We are learning about the Harvest Festival.
